Avril is a National Coordinator for the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme, which is managed by MEI. She is responsible for the AMSP's sustained professional development courses.
After gaining an MA in Engineering and then working in Structural Engineering Consultancy firms, Avril completed a PhD in Structural Mechanics making use of applied maths to study nonlinear dynamical systems. Following further post-doctoral research, Avril took up a post as a Lecturer at UCL in London, delivering undergraduate courses and practical sessions and writing course and examination materials. Having left the UK to live overseas for a couple of years, Avril returned to the UK and was involved with running a small business before returning to mathematics and teaching by completing a GTP course. She went on to teach in a large mathematics department, with responsibility for sixth form mathematics planning, delivery and enrichment. Avril joined MEI in April 2016.
